- The wedding day
Last I left off, the day was flying by. The photographer had arrived, my hair and makeup were done, and it was time to put on my dress! My two maids of honor helped me in, and there was almost a bit of a disaster as I realized that my dress was too big, but lots of double stick tape saved the day and avoided any slips. (Note to any brides-to-be out there… get.double.stick.tape.)
My dress was everything I had ever hoped for. It was exactly what I always pictured myself in, and it was so comfortable. I would live in it if I could (and if you follow me on Twitter, you know I still sometimes chill around my house in my dress
).
My brother came in to see how I was doing, and seeing him get emotional when he saw me in my dress was the first time that day that I actually got emotional!
We had planned to have Bobby stop over at my Nana’s on his way to the church so that we could say a super special hello to each other. Although Bobby and I were being traditional, and we didn’t want to actually see each other until I was on my way down the aisle, we thought it would be so special to be able to hold hands and hear each others voices before the ceremony began (I actually got this idea from Julie’s blog!). I remember anxiously waiting behind the door when I heard, “Hey baby…” and that was when I lost it.
Just hearing his voice, and touching his hand made me realize how excited and lucky I was. I couldn’t wait to walk down the aisle to him, and see his gorgeous smile. My nerves all disappeared as we exchanged a few tearful words and squeezes of hands before he gave me a card and told me how excited he was to become my husband.
Most heartfelt words I’ve ever read.
Once he was on his way to the church, we waited for the limo and took a few more pictures before it was time to head to the ceremony!
Before I knew it, we were climbing in the limo, singing “Going to the Chapel” at the top of our lungs! The church was just a couple of minutes away, but it was the most exciting ride of my life. I was surrounded by all my best friends, my mom & dad, and my Nana…. and I was headed to marry the man of my dreams!
Once at the church, we waited outside for a few minutes while everyone was seated.
Meanwhile, inside the church, Bobby’s groomsmen did a great job of making sure his sweating was under control.
I remember hearing the music start, and the wedding coordinator started to send my bridesmaids down the aisle one by one. Before I knew it, I was left standing outside alone with my parents, and it was about to be time.
They each kissed me on my cheek, squeezed my hand, and we listened as my wedding music started up.
This moment that is captured by my photographer is one of my all time favorite pictures, because I remember that exact moment. The exact moment that I was told it was “time.” My dad began to open the doors, and I remember feeling like the excitement was almost unbearable. It felt like a dream. I still remember the exact feeling in my belly, the way the wind was blowing my veil, and the overwhelming feeling of just needing to see Bobby’s face…
As I made my way down the aisle, I focused on Bobby and nothing else. Seeing him get teared up and the look on his face as I walked to him made me feel like the most beautiful girl in the world.
I wish that I could tell you that I remember every second of the ceremony…. but I don’t. It flew by.
I remember Bobby trying to catch his breath as he whispered, “You look beautiful.” when I finally reached him at the end of the aisle.
I remember looking around and seeing everyone I love around us and feeling so lucky and blessed.
I remember looking at my maids of honor and Bobby’s best man sitting across from us and trying not to laugh as we exchanged silent laughs about the fact that I was actually getting married! :)
I remember squeezing Bobby’s hand and exchanging glances of excitement throughout the ceremony.
I remember looking into Bobby’s gorgeous blue eyes as he spoke the most important words he ever will to me, and him struggling to keep it together as I recited them to him.
I remember feeling gitty with excitement as everyone broke out into applause as we shared our “first kiss.”
and I remember feeling like the happiest, luckiest girl in the world as I made my way back down the aisle with my new husband ….
and then, it was time to party!
