Getting back on track!

Hi everyone! Hope you are all starting off your Monday nicely! This weekend was such a blast that it was a little difficult to get out of bed this morning, but I managed to get my butt to 6 a.m. spin class, which was so very needed.

After the rehearsal on Thursday, and the wedding on Friday, Bobby and I had a very relaxing rest of the weekend. I got in a nice long run on Sunday before Bobby and I headed to the driving range. He hit some balls (t.w.s.s.) while I read my book.

I’m almost done with the first 50 Shades book. It’s…. good. ;)

*Cough, cough*

I’m actually really enjoying it, but man, some of the chapters are pretty…. intense. Let’s just say I find myself daydreaming about Christen Grey blushing… a lot.

Anyway, it was a nice little Sunday, but after all these weddings I’m ready to get back to a schedule…. and back on track.

As I’ve mentioned, this spring was jam-packed with weddings and wedding related activities. Between bridal showers, bachelorette parties, rehearsal dinners, and weddings… I’ve had my fair share of indulgences recently. I’ve been eating and drinking much more than usual, and my body is starting to hate me for it. It’s been about 3 months of nonstop celebrating!

I’ve kind of been avoiding getting on the scale because truthfully, I just didn’t want to face it. But then I started noticing that my pants were getting tighter… things are just getting a bit too snug for my liking! I decided to just suck it up and weigh myself. Sure enough, I’ve gained about 6 pounds.

6 pounds in 3 months?! Someone’s been eating too much wedding cake, and that someone is ME.

My reason for posting this is simply to help with my motivation to lose that extra baggage. I need to be held accountable, and I want to be open with my plan of attack. I’m not saying that I’m overweight, but I’m just not at my happy weight.

In one month I’ll be cruising to Bermuda, and I would looove to be back to my happy weight.

So, what do I plan to do?

  • Stop boozing my face off every single night of the weekend. I’ve been enjoying way too much wine and cocktails on Fridays, Saturdays, and even Sundays recently. It needs to stop. Drinking leads to snacking… and I don’t need those late night diner runs that have happened a few times over the last few months.
  • Cut back on the sweets and processed carbs! I’ve had way too many desserts over these past few months, simple as that.
  • Weekend sweat sessions. Being that I’ve been either 1. Doing wedding things all day or 2. Hungover on Saturdays and Sundays recently, I had let my weekend workouts fall to the wayside. No more! Although I’ve kept up with my weekday workouts, I want to make sure to hit the gym at least once during the weekends too.
  • Take my vitamins and make sure I’m getting enough fruits and veggies! I love veggies, and recently I’ve been slacking in that department. I’ve also neglected taking my vitamins! In order to help with that, I’ll be taking my PuraVit daily vitamins. I was contacted by the lovely Lindsay from this amazing new company and asked to help spread the word about a giveaway that they will be having. All you have to do is visit their Facebook page and comment on a daily post, and you win a free 30-day set of vitamins for you and 2 of your friends! I urge you to take a look at their page!

What do you do when you feel like you need to get back on track?? Any tips would be greatly appreciated! :)

  1. yesss, 50 shades def. gets intense, and i too found myself blushing & looking around to make sure no one was reading over my shoulder, haha. & whenever I need to get back on track, I always try to increase the amount of water I’m drinking, eat more clean & make sure to sweat it out – I feel like I’m always much much better at making healthier decisions if I workout
but waking up for 6am? sounds like you are def on the fast track back to getting to your “happy weight” .. you go girl!

  2. I went to the library to get 50 Shades and it’s out, I think I’m 150th on the list. I’ve heard lots of good things about the book;) Did you see the SNL skit with Kristen Wiig about 50 Shades?
When I gain weight (which is right now! grr) I try to avoid starches and processed suar as much as possible. I find not eating late at night along with more water helps me too.

    • Hahaha I saw that! Hilarious. I love Kristen Wiig, she cracks me up no matter what she is doing!
I’m cutting back on the starches too, trying to get in as much lean protein and veggies as possible!

  3. Hey, a fellow 50 Shades lover! I’m going to start the third book tonight after work. Ohmygoodnessohmygoodness. Can’t get enough :)

When I need to get back on track, I start chugging water. That’s a big downfall of mine – not getting that H2O in!

    • I agree, I need to focus on drinking some extra water. I just hate the taste… so boring. Blech.
I can’t wait to get the 2nd book, I’m already having anxiety that I haven’t ordered it yet because I’m about to be done with the first and I don’t want to go a day without my Christen Grey fix! ;)

I always get that feeling at the end of the fall (aka tailgating season). My life is filled with too much alcohol, going out, and not-so-healthy snacks during that time of the year. When I need to get back on track, I do a lot of planning to make sure I stick with that I say I’m going to do. I do also journal food and count calories from time to time – it’s not the right thing for everyone, but it works for me!

    • I agree… food journaling and calorie counting helps for me too. I can only do it for a short period of time, but it always helps me reset things and gets me back in the calorie range that I belong!

Um I could have written this exact post. I still have one more wedding this week and some friends are coming into town to stay with us as of Wed so every night this week is going to be crazy. I did better at the wedding last weekend and only had 3 drinks… I think in general that’s going to be my rule. 3 or 4 drinks total per week. I think that will help cut down on calories and the late night snacks. Those totally get me.

I just finished the 3rd 50 Shades book. I loved them all but am very sad they are over, lol!! And yes, LOTS of blushing was involved!!

The pounds can creep on waayyy too easily sometimes. I am trying to lose a bit right now. Three down and about 5 more to go!!

  7. When there is SO much to celebrate- it gets SO hard! …I always have a hard time getting back on track when I’ve let snacking on sweets get the best of me- I crave them and it almost drives me crazy, I just need to remember that in a few days the huge cravings will go away and I’ll be in control once again….. You have some pretty great motivation– ahhhh, good times in your future! :)

    • Yes! I do the same thing… the more sweets I eat, the more I crave them. Like right now… all I want is frozen yogurt with lots of toppings… but I know if I give in, I’ll only end up wanting more tomorrow. It takes me a few days to kick those cravings and then I’m all good! :)

  8. I watch episodes of Biggest Loser on demand haha. It gets me motivated and in the work-out spirit. I also go to Trader Joe’s and buy lots of healthy foods. I have to make healthy living a HOBBY or it seems like too much of a job and responsibility!

  9. Hey! Just wanted to let you know I’ve enjoyed reading your blog over the past several months and nominated you for the One Lovely Blog Award. I just posted about it today!

  10. I seriously need to jump on the 50 Shades bandwagon! It sounds intriguing and I want to know what all of the fuss is about! :-) I am right there with you girl, especially on the over-indulging in sweets! I don’t mind so much eating sweets as far as the weight gain thing goes, but my problem is they I feel so run down and hungover from the sugar! My mom and I made a pact to take a breather from extra sweets this week and after one day I feel better already!

  11. Last summer, I had a full 8 weeks of bachlorettes, weddings, and wknd trips and it was so hard to stay healthy and not gain weight. Celebrating is worth it though and now that life is more back to normal, I’m sure the pounds will fall off. Your photos from the wedding are terrific so don’t worry about the scale- you look great!

I need to jump on the “getting back on track” bandwagon – I fell off in March and haven’t really gained but haven’t lost either which SUCKS. Good luck :)

  13. This is my first time at your blog, and I love it! I’m actually switching to third grade next year.
My boyfriend LOVES to go out to eat, and while I love it too and usually while I order a pretty healthy entree, splitting appetizers and desserts and then with drinks, it doesn’t always balance out! I’m trying to cut back on the alcohol and indulgences. I used to workout 6 times a week, and I have fell back to only four, so hopefully adding another day or two as well!

  14. My boyfriend LOVES to go out and eat, and while I usually order an entree on the healthier side, drinks and sharing appetizers and desserts start to add up! Plus, while I used to workout 6 times a week, I’m down to 4, so goals are less indulging and more exercising!

  15. I don’t think I’ve been on the scale in about a month, it’s time. For real.

What is 50 shades about? I am intrigued…
When I am trying to get back on track I only eat when I am hungry and continue working out, etc. etc. You will be back to your happy self in no time!

    • 50 shades is basically all about this crazy love affair between a couple…. It’s VERY focused on their “love” life, and that’s putting it mildly! Google it if you want the juicy details ;)
