W.I.A.W: Birthday Dinner!

Thank you all for your birthday wishes!  They made me very happy and helped me kick off my 30th year perfectly!  This W.I.A.W. took place yesterday as I celebrated my day.

I decided I wanted to stay in for my birthday dinner with Bobby last night because it was rainy and gross out, and he has something special planned for me on Saturday night to really celebrate my 30th!  It really turned out to be exactly what I wanted and I couldn’t have asked for a better night with my husband. :)

Let’s jump right into the daytime so we can get to the good stuff….

8:30 – Overnight Oats & an apple

Would you believe this was my first time trying overnight oats?  I honestly can’t decide if I’m a fan or not.  I think I need to play around with some toppings to make it more my taste.  I’ll admit, it was great to be able to just grab my Tupperware out of the fridge and head to work!

11:45 – Grilled Chicken with Veggies

I was feeling very lazy Monday night and just threw together some leftover chicken and veggies to bring to work for lunch.  It may not have been creative, but it did the job! :)

3:00 - Unpictured snack of pistachios and a plain Chobani yogurt

6:00 - Birthday Cocktails!  Red wine for me, Corona for Bobby

I got home from work to find the apartment cleaned, beautiful flowers waiting for me, and birthday decorations hung up!  I don’t know what I was more excited for, a birthday celebration or a clean apartment! :)

7:30 – Lobster and roasted asparagus

Bobby asked me what I wanted him to make me for my birthday dinner and the first thing that came to mind was seafood and veggies!  This dinner was perfect, and we had such a blast cooking up the feast.  My job was to drink wine and pet the lobsters before they went into the boiling water.  Apparently if you stroke their heads prior to dropping them in, they are more calm and it is less painful for them.  Bobby’s job was to do all the cooking, which was done perfectly!  When he came home from the store with about 6 lbs of lobster, I was convinced we would never be able to finish it all, but somehow it all ended up being eaten!  They were delicious! :)

After dinner we sat at the table for a bit listening to Zac Brown Band (they are our latest obsession), chatting, and playing around with Romo.  We tried to get a family picture….

Romo didn’t feel like cooperating.

9:00 – Birthday froyo!!!  Coffee frozen yogurt with chocolate sprinkles and a few Reese’s pieces.

I told Bobby that since I know there will be cake on Saturday night for my big celebration, I didn’t want cake twice this week.  Instead, we ran out to our favorite frozen yogurt place for some birthday froyo.  We even wore our birthday hats… a passerby commented that it takes a “real man” to wear a pink birthday hat.  I agree, that’s my husband. ;)

After dessert it was gift time!!! :)

A giant bag of pretzel M&M’s (ughhh I want to bathe in these things), Fifty Shades of Grey (gotta see what all the hype is about), and a gorgeous “Boyfriend” style Michael Kors watch which I have been dying for!

It was a great day followed by a PERFECT night.  Bobby made me feel like a queen, and he keeps telling me we have plenty more celebrating to do on Saturday, so we shall see what the weekend brings!  :)

What do you choose to eat for your birthday dinner?

What was the best gift you’ve ever gotten?

Have you read Fifty Shades of Grey?  Thoughts? ;)

Have you had overnight oats for breakfast?  What toppings should I add??

  1. omg – your husband is just the cutest to wear the birthday hat out, what a keeper!
as for the 50 shades .. I”m on the third and final book, and as I keep reading, I’m realizing that it’s not as good as it is made out to be, but yet there’s something about it that won’t let me put it down, it’s almost like i’m addicted to reading it … but in a good way! & i’ve also only tried overnight oats one time, and I wasn’t a big fan of it either – I haven’t gotten around to trying it again, but it’s on my to do list! glad to hear you had a great birthday & can’t wait to read about the big celebration this weekend!

    • Haha ok I started reading it last night and I totally get what you mean. The writing itself isn’t great, but for some reason I couldn’t put it down!
And yes, my husband is definetly a keeper :)

  2. I’m so glad that you had a wonderful birthday- it doesn’t sound like it could get much better than that! :)
….For my oats- I cook a huge batch for the week and put them in glass jars in the fridge for each day. So, each day it is like fresh oatmeal- I don’t like the way most people do overnight oats- they aren’t fluffy enough for me.

SO glad you had a fun birthday!! I only had overnight oats once… and I wasn’t a fan. Maybe I did them wrong??

  4. hahaha I love that your job was to pet the lobsters and drink wine. Does cooking lobster bother you? It doesn’t phase me. They are too delicious :-)

I LOVE overnight oats! They’re all doughy and yuummy… try adding something crunchy, like your favorite cereal. My recent fave has been Three Sisters Cocoa Snapz (think cocoa crispies but a healthier version. And that lobster!! Did you guys have to kill/stun him? I’ve always wanted to make one at home but that part seriously freaks me out like you would not believe!

    • Good thinking with the cereal! I’ll give that a try!
As far as the lobster…. It freaked me out too, but it was so worth it! Its actually really sad though bc you just drop them head first into boiling water while they are still alive… I said a little prayer for the delicious little guy. :(

  8. Such a great birthday! I love that you guys wore your party hats to get frozen yogurt! Your hubby made a great dinner- I’m impressed with the lobsters

  9. sounds like a wonderful birthday! i LOVE that watch!

How adorable is that family photo!!? Love your furry baby pic, tho the cute hubby isnt hard to look at! ;) for overnight oats try with half greek yogurt and half milk, or use kefeir- i also add a bit of dried fruit, chia seeds, and always either chopped nuts or some nut butter, and in the morning i add a handful of cereal for some krispy.. Its all very personal but Its such a great grab and go meal!
