Wedding Recap: The Wedding Day

I have been thinking about these next few “Wedding Recap” posts for so long now, yet it’s been a struggle to get any words written.  I think it’s because any wedding recap posts before now came easily.  They were amazing moments and days… but this recap is my wedding day.  It’s hard to put that into words, and it’s nearly impossible to convey the feelings that July 15th brought.  In case you missed my past recaps, you can catch up here:

Our Engagement

Bachelorette Party

Bridal Shower

Meeting Bruce!

Rehearsal Dinner

I woke up the morning of our wedding at the crack of dawn.  Even though I hadn’t fallen asleep until late the night before, my stomach was filled with butterflies and excitement that made it impossible to sleep!

Imagine that exciting feeling you got as a child on Christmas morning (if you celebrate Christmas, of course)… and then times it by millions.

I was the only person awake in the house, so I just laid there and thought about the day ahead.  After a half hour or so, my mom knocked on the door and climbed in bed with me.  Before I knew it, my two maids of honor had climbed in as well.  Apparently we were all too excited to sleep in!

Apparently my mom didn’t get the memo to open her eyes.

After a little while of lying around and chatting, we decided to get up and get the day started!  We had breakfast, showered, and headed out for our 9:30 hair and makeup appointments.

All of the rest of my bridesmaids met us at the salon to get dolled up as well!  It was so much fun being surrounded by everyone, and I honestly felt no nerves at all… just pure excitement and happiness!

After everyone finished hair and makeup, we went back to my Nana’s house where I had planned a Bridesmaid’s Brunch as a thank you to all of my amazing bridesmaids for everything they had done for me.  I had ordered a full spread of food from a delicious restaurant, which we enjoyed along with some mimosas!

As we were eating, I got a special delivery from my soon-to-be husband!

I was having such a blast hanging out with my family and friends that I almost (okay, not really) forgot that in a matter of hours I’d be walking down the aisle to Bobby.

From the moment we became engaged people were giving advice.  I heard so many different tidbits that they all sort of seemed to blend into one… however, the one thing we heard the most was:

“Remember every second of your wedding day…. it goes so fast.”

I went into the day with that ingrained in my mind.  I wanted this to be something that I savored, something that lasted forever.  I paid attention to every detail throughout the day, trying to take mental pictures of all the amazing moments… and somehow, it still happened.  It flew by.

Somehow, before I knew it, my makeup was on, my hair was done, the photographer had arrived, and my bridesmaids were telling me it was time to put on my dress.  I remember hearing them say that to me, and feeling such a crazy shot of adrenaline shoot through my body.

It was time to put on my dress.

What was the best piece of advice you’ve ever gotten?

Tell me about something that you’ve gotten really excited for!

What would your dream wedding dress look like (if you are married, tell me about what yours looked like!!!)?

Ahh I have been so excited for these posts of the wedding day :-) You look SO BEAUTIFUL!
The best advice I’ve ever gotten is, “Life is too short to do something you don’t enjoy.”
I always imagine my wedding dress to have lots of lace and/or texture. And I imagine it a lot :-)

  2. It is so hard to put words to the wedding day- it is so packed full of emotions and memories that are special to you, and you alone that it is hard for someone else to truly understand. I had small touches for the husband everywhere that made it seem so ‘us’ that it was undeniable.
“Pray for each other” was the best advice that I think I was given- our pastor told us that one and I thought it was wonderful!
    Your day looks AMAZING! :)

  3. You looked sooo pretty! Everyone keeps telling me to enjoy every moment and WALK SLOW down the aisle, because it goes so fast! I don’t want it to go too fast, though!

  4. Your dress is absolutely gorgeous girl! So classic! :-) it reminds me a little of my own with the sweet heart neckline and gathered material around the waist. Love it!

The best piece of advise I’ve gotten is: The strongest tree bends a little. I love the wedding hanger! I had one for my wedding, too, and now I just keep it outside of my closet. Can’t wait to read more weddings posts.

    • What a good idea with the wedding hanger! I have it in my closet because I wasn’t sure what else to do with it. I’m not sure why I didn’t think to display it!
      I like that advice… so true! :)

  7. You look so happy in each photo! And beautiful wedding dress!!!!
