Spring Cleaning: Classroom Style!

Hi everyone!  I hope your week is off to a good start!  If your just getting back into the swing of things after the weekend and catching up on blog reading, here’s what you missed in this neck of the woods…

I started off my Monday with my favorite form of cardio – SPINNING!  It feels like such a treat when I let myself go to the class instead of for a run (as I’ve been trying to get ready for my half marathon in May).  This morning’s class was great… the room was extra dark, the music was extra loud, and I was extra sweaty!  Glorious.

After work today I hit up the grocery store to stock up on food for the week, and immediately came home, changed out of my work clothes, and headed outside for a walk.  There was no way I was letting this gorgeous weather go to waste!  As I was walking, I looked down and noticed this gnarly-ness of a manicure…

Think it’s been awhile? ;)   I instantly knew where my walk would take me.  A manicure and a pedicure later, I felt like a new woman!

All cleaned up!

I came home from my walk and cooked up some turkey taco’s for Bobby and I.  They were delicious, but as always when I eat mexican, I ate too much.  I.am.full.  Ooops.

Third Grade World…

In the beginning of the school year, I read a book to my class as a read aloud.  In the book, there is a story about a mousey little creature named The Messy Desk Pest.

This little pest lives in very messy desks, and he thrives off of junk found in student’s desks.  My students loved the story, and The Messy Desk Pesk quickly became a popular topic of discussion.

I decided to use that to my advantage and create The Clean Desk Pet.  About once a month since we read the story, this little creature will pay our classroom a visit during the night and leave Hershey Kisses on student’s desks that are nice and clean (he also likes to leave a message on the whiteboard urging the rest of the students to clean out their desks)!

Well, The Clean Desk Pet paid us a visit last night, and lemme tell ya… within minutes my classroom floor looked like a hurricane had come through as my “messy desk” students did a little spring cleaning!

The end result? 22 spotless desks.

The Clean Desk Pet… works every time! ;)

Were you a messy desk student or would the Clean Desk Pet have left you a Hershey Kiss?

The Clean Desk Pet would NOT have given me a treat, I know that! :)

  1. I kept my desk pretty clean when I was in school. I hated when other kids’ stuff touched my desk, so I would move it back over to their desk. Yeah, I was that kid.

This is so random, but my fiance and I have been looking at wedding rings, and we’ve seen a lot with two bands (one on top and one on the bottom of the engagement ring), like yours. Is there a reason for that, or is it just a new style? We’re confused, haha.

    • I’m not sure about other people, but my great grandma passed down her engagement ring setting and matching wedding band to me when she passed away. My husband bought the diamond for the setting and my wedding band which I wear on the bottom, and I wear my great grandmas band on the top. Haha long answer… But that’s why I have three :)

  2. What a great idea! I probably wouldn’t have got a Hershey Kiss as a kid. And come to think of it, probably wouldn’t get one if the Clean Desk Pet visited me now! My home office desk is mediocre … my desk at work is a disaster with a capital D. And I’m so organized in the rest of my life … yet you can’t tell what color the top of my desk is! It’s so strange!

I was a very type A, perfectionist of a child. Now… not so much. Not only is my desk a disaster my entire office is a complete sty. It bothered me until I noticed that everyone else office was “littered” with work. I guess it’s a lawyer thing. Now, it doesn’t bother me so much because at least I know where everything is. The Clean Desk Pet is a brilliant idea!

    • Haha yeah, I agree… what looks like a mess to someone else actually makes perfect sense to me! As long as I can find what I need, I don’t see the problem! ;) I go crazy if my apartment is cluttered, but my classroom… there is no way to avoid that!

  4. Love that idea!! You are almost making me want to stay with teaching and give elementary school a try ;-) You sound like a teacher that all of those kids are going to remember for the rest of their lives.
