Hey everyone! As I mentioned before, I am planning on doing wedding recaps over the next few Wednesdays. I’ll admit, I miss being a bride. Don’t get me wrong, I love being married to my wonderful husband more than I thought would be possible and each day as a newlywed continues to make me so thankful and feel so blessed to have found my guy.
But let’s be real, its awesome being a bride. I mean, in normal life, I hate attention. I hate having all eyes on me… but I sure fell into the “bride” roll easily. I ate, slept, and drank WEDDING. I was pretty laid back, no bridezilla here, but that doesn’t mean that I didn’t enjoy every second (well, almost every second) of planning our Big Day.
So I wanted to relive it, and try to capture the most amazing time of my life so far.
Anyway, before I jump into the actual wedding and all the fun stuff that goes along with it, I wanted to back up and give you our engagement story….
It all started when Bobby surprised me with a trip to St. Thomas. Spending five days with my amazing boyfriend at an all-inclusive resort, eating and drinking on the beach all day? Sign this girl up. We were both extremely excited for our trip, and although I wanted to come home with a rock on my finger, I wasn’t expecting it.
We had the most amazing first two days in St. Thomas.
The food was delicious…
and the drinks were never ending…
Bobby let me know that he had made reservations for the second night of our vacation. It was at a super fancy restaurant right off the resort. One might have thought that this would tip me off, however, I really just thought he wanted to leave the resort for a nice dinner out.
Ok, so maybe the real reason I didn’t think anything was because I had searched our entire hotel room when Bobby was in the shower, and found no sign of a ring. Whatevs, you would have done it too.
Anyway, after a perfect day of a good work out, lounging on the beach, cocktails at the pool bar, and napping off a sunburn… we showered and got ready for our night out. I noticed that Bobby seemed to be really excited for dinner, but I chalked it up to him being excited for a good steak.
Bobby wanted to grab some drinks at the beach bar before we headed over to dinner (it was a two-minute walk down the beach). His plan was to make it to the beach as the sun was setting… however…. I take a long time to get ready (what girl doesn’t???)… so the sun was just about down as we headed out for our walk along the beach.
Walking barefoot in the sand, holding Bobby’s hand, talking all about us… I couldn’t have been happier…. that was, until I realized Bobby had stopped walking, and was waiting for me to face him.
I turned to look at him, and realized that he had just knelt down in the sand. Words were coming out of his mouth… and there was a ring in his hand. That’s about the time that I think I blacked out. Yup, don’t remember a word that was spoken (thankfully, Bobby has since filled me in
).
Next thing I know, I was jumping up and down, climbing on top of Bobby, screaming, the whole shebang. I was a happy girl. The happiest girl.
After we calmed down and caught our breaths, we bounded up the beach to dinner. Bobby had pulled out all the stops with a beautiful ocean side table and some delicious chilled bubbly.
Our waiter said something to me that I’ll never forget. As we sat there laughing and Bobby sharing with me every detail of the events leading up to the engagement, our waiter popped open some champagne and made a toast to us.
He said, “the smiles that you have on your faces right now…. please always remember them. Remember how they feel.”
The rest of the night was just as perfect. We called (and cried to) our parents and best friends, who were all anxiously awaiting to hear from us, as Bobby had talked to them all about what his plans were. After that we went back to our hotel room, where Bobby had set up our ipod dock to play an Engagement Playlist” as we got in. We spent the night laughing, crying, dancing, and jumping on the beds like little kids until the sun came up.
The rest of our vacation was spent celebrating our engagement…
reliving the moment again and again (and again)….
and talking about it to just about anyone who would listen…
It.was.perfect.
People say that when your with the perfect match for you, you feel at home. And it was during that vacation that I understood what was meant by that. I can’t describe the happiness and comfort that I felt knowing that I was going to be spending the rest of my life with the most amazing man that I had ever met
I’m a lucky girl.

I saw a comment you wrote on Yes, I want cake and checked out your blog because I’m a third grade teacher as well. When I saw on a picture in this post that you are Hawkeye fans, I had to comment because I live in Iowa and went to the U of I! I also recently started playing around with a blog (www.lovemypumpkins.blogspot.com) so it’s fun seeing other people get started. Love what I see so far on yours and look forward to reading more!
Thanks for commenting! I have to admit, my husband and I have only been to Iowa once to visit some of his coworkers who are HUGE Hawkeye fans. We had a BLAST though! Your blog looks great too, can’t wait to try those tofu nuggets!

I just got engaged in December and I’m currently knee deep planning out October wedding. I totally agree that although I’m so not an attention lover, I love being a bride!!!
Congratulations! Enjoy every minute of this time!!
I just came about your blog and noticed the fun picture up top where you look like you are tailgating for an Iowa football game, enjoying a big ass turkey leg. How did a NJ girl end up at an Iowa game? I’m only asking because I went to Iowa
I’m glad you came across my blog! Haha actually a bunch of my husbands coworkers are Iowa alumni, so we went out there a few years ago for the Homecoming game. We had a BLAST!! I can only imagine how much fun it would have been to go there for college!
